Rhythm, Repetition & Plot (oh my)

I have been reading a lot of old school folklore.

And something I’ve noticed is the repetition.

So when speaking with a friend I said,

“I have been reading a lot of old-school folklore.

And something I’ve noticed is the repetition.

Where a modern story would prioritise new information, and furthering the plot…”

But my friend cut me off,

“It’s oral tradition, right?

It’s about the rhythm, not the plot”.

“Exactly”,

said I,

“It’s oral tradition.

It’s about the rhythm, not the plot.

Where a modern story would prioritise new information, and furthering the plot, as I’ve been reading a old-school folklore I’ve noticed the repetition, and noticed the rhythm.

Not the plot.”
